MEET THE COACHES

CHRIS CANTANNO

Coach Chris Cantanno was born on Long Island, NY, but moved with his family to Palm Coast, FL, at the age of seven. At that time, Palm Coast was a burgeoning town with a population of about 7,000, and lacrosse was just beginning to take root in the area. Chris first picked up a lacrosse stick in eighth grade, in 1995.
Back then, lacrosse was relatively new to the region. Flagler Palm Coast High School had recently established a lacrosse team, led by Mike Elliot, a history teacher from the Northeast. Every player on the team was not only a participant but also an ambassador for the sport. This generation of players juggled their roles as athletes, recruiters, and volunteers, often learning the game through out-of-state experiences and sharing that knowledge with teammates who couldn’t travel. It was a formative, passionate era for the sport.
Chris carried this spirit into his college years, helping to build the lacrosse program at the University of Central Florida with several key individuals. His guiding principle has always been to enhance every program he is part of, continually seeking out talented coaches and integrating unique insights to advance the game.
For the next two decades, Coach Chris balanced his coaching duties with his love for playing lacrosse, often in informal settings reminiscent of the carefree spirit captured in the movie *The Sandlot*. This is where he feels most at home with the sport.
In terms of coaching, Chris has been involved in youth lacrosse since high school, dedicating each year to introducing younger players to the game. He believes that the success of any program hinges on nurturing its future players.
At the high school level, Coach Chris has had stints at Timber Creek High School in the early 2000s, Flagler Palm Coast High School intermittently over 15 years, Lyman High School briefly, and has been with Boone High School for the past five years.
Beyond lacrosse, Coach Chris is devoted to his wife, his 10-year-old son, and JD, an 18-year-old extended family member. He and his wife, who have been together since high school, have grown together, achieving significant milestones and setting goals.
Coach Chris is committed to imparting values of dedication, growth, and passion to the next generation.
